Windows and Your Health

November 3, 2016 · By Northome Comfort Windows

Health Canada suggests that homeowners maintain a Relative Humidity in their homes between 30% to 55%. Relative Humidity above or below these levels can create poor air quality and respiratory issues caused by mold, mites, bacteria and other micro-organisms. We were advised that by maintaining a 40% RH, it would eliminate the strep throat bacteria which cannot survive in 40% RH.
We decided that our goal would be to develop a window system that would give us the ability to allow homeowners to maintain a 40% RH inside their home without any discernible condensation or frosting on their glass even when the outside temperature was –40C.
We started by using the very best components in the development of our windows and then installing our windows as close to the inside surface of the wall as possible. We have had great success in achieving our goal.  You will find that our window systems, installed in this ideal location will keep your window surface virtually as warm, or even warmer than your walls.  This can be achieved even in -40C, by keeping the interior air temperature of the home at +21C and by allowing the warm air of the home to flow by the window surface with no obstructions. All these factors can help to achieve a desired Relative Humidity without having moisture on your windows.
