Our Process

There is a lot to think about when beginning a window project, but with a little upfront planning and a little help from us, we take the guesswork out of your window project. With the right guidance and the knowledge of what to expect, your window project can be an exciting and rewarding experience.

Here are a few tips to consider when planning your window project:

  1. Research ideas and inspiration for your project.  Search online or catalogues for ideas. Talk to your neighbors, friends, family, to see what they have done.
  2. Determine your budget. Its tough to know what the cost of new windows will be, let alone the labour and materials. Start by comparing products and prices. This will give you an idea of how much you will need to spend.
  3. Use only a licensed and insured window company specializing in window installation. Ask friend, family and neighbors for referrals of people they trust and have used.  Are they in good standing with Workers Compensation Board?
  4. Research and compare warranties. Read the fine print, noting limitations.
  5. Get it all in writing. Make sure price quotes have all the details written down, to make it easy for you to compare products. When finalizing your purchase, review your contract thoroughly before signing, making certain to include all specifications, instructions, warranties, payment requirements etc. in writing.
  6. Consider resale value. If this isn't your forever home, and you plan on selling your home someday, new windows will increase the value of your home. Installing a high quality energy efficient window backed with a good reputation and a transferable warranty is a great selling feature.
  7. Find a source of feedback and trusted advice before you begin. At Northome, our sales consultants work with you, at no charge, to design your window package. We come to your home, go window to window with you, measure and discuss what it is that you want from each window in each room.
  8. Be bold and pick what you love.  Make sure you pick window designs that will not only improve the comfort of your home, but give you the functionality that you are looking for as well.

Make energy efficiency a priority.

By researching and understanding options, you can make smart decisions on the glass, frame, and sash of your windows. An efficient window not only save heating and cooling bills, but it also improves occupant comfort by keeping your house warmer in winter and cooler in summer

Plan for your future needs.

People of all ages benefit from making their homes more accessible and easier to maintain. Consider easy-to-turn hand cranks and low-placed latches to make your windows easier to operate.

Proper installation is critical.

Ask for a complete list of customers in your area not just a cherry picked list. Phone them for a referral. Ask the window dealer if you can view window installations in your neighbourhood.
