Northome Comfort Windows celebrated the Grand Opening of their new window manufacturing plant on Friday, December 2 with an official vinyl cutting ceremony. Nelson said that the company had very humble beginnings when it first started in 1990 with only three employees. “Our first office was in a small bedroom in our house,” said Cheryl and added Nelson; “our first workshop was a green tarp nailed to the outside of our house.” The company now employs 26 people in the Foam Lake location. The new location in Foam Lake is a far cry from the first workshop which was at their home on their acreage north of Foam Lake in the Edfield district. “Over the years we have developed a system and it is working well for us,” said Cheryl. That system, which includes a networked computer system, allows Nelson and Cheryl the opportunity to remain ‘hands on’ in running their business when they are not in the office. ”We are just very proud of our staff and our system,” said Cheryl. “We have had exclusive products developed for us that no one else in the world has,” added Nelson. He also said that the right work ethic and attitude is also extremely important to them because it allows them to provide outstanding service which contributes to a high degree of customer satisfaction, something that is extremely important to them and their business. Northome is located in the former Shop Easy building on Main Street in Foam Lake and houses the company’s main and installation offices, window fabrication facility and distribution centre. Prior to the official opening ceremony, Mayor Bob Johnson made a presentation to the Couplands on behalf of the Town of Foam Lake. “Since the inception of your business you have shown tremendous leadership and innovation in building a business in a very competitive industry; your hard work has paid off as you continue to grow your company,” he said before presenting them with a desk clock commemorating the opening. Northome opened their first franchise office in Regina this past year. Their son, Jonathon Coupland and partner Ryan Osicki operate the business under the Northome name along with employee Clint Danyluik who was formerly employed with Northome in Foam Lake. “The Regina franchise is doing very well and we are very excited about it,” said Nelson. They are currently looking at other franchise opportunities in the near future. |
